I awoke as I always do these days
to the birds in the trees and the soft music from my bedside.
The radio turned low, I snuggled in
enjoying those moments in the morning light.
The host of the show (on classical radio)
read words that don't rhyme (a new listener pastime)
one bloke sent in a poem he pinned
where the non-rhyme words were rhymed with non-words
I smiled and started my day.
The shower was warm, my clothes laid out,
the day was looking better and better
I took out my oats, prepared, my bowl,
I thought I might write a letter
But I looked at the bowl and my heart wasn't there,
I found I had a new urge
I put on my tweed, my stomach to feed,
this was a morning to splurge.
The sun coming up,
the street still asleep
the dew, on pedals. Reveille!
I head to Summertown
a brisk morning walk
for an almond croissant at my bakery
Now I turn home,
my teapot to make
my morning, spent well, with you.
My day thus begun
with a little bit of fun
the rest should be enjoyable too.
