Strange Brew posted a comic today that made me 'laugh':

An obvious commentary on the state of world affairs, but also a poignant reminder that the human tendency to put ourselves in the centre or attention is a double-edged sword.
Or actually, in my mind, it's just a single-edged sword. I see no reason to think or believe that we hold a special place in the universe. Our ability for rational thought may set us apart from the species we have so far discovered, but that does not equate with saying that we are 'better' or that everything should revolve around our wishes. Many people hold a contrary opinion, though, and of course they are welcome to it. All I want to say, though, is that if we are continually focused on ourselves, we get ourselves into positions where we would rather annihilate our own species (not to mention what it would do to the rest of the ecosystem) than stepping back and taking in the bigger picture of which humans and the politics and technologies we are made of are but a small part. Once we are able to see ourselves from the outside, I think we will have a decent chance at laughing at ourselves and moving on with 'more important' things in life, leading our curiosity in directions of how humans related to the rest of the world (and universe).
